Madrid

Visitors must keep in mind the late dining hours; restaurants do not even open until eight or nine o'clock. Many night establishments are open until the early morning hours. It is impossible to make a list of the selection of bars due to their vast quantity and variety. For this reason, what we offer is a list of the different zones specified by the type of atmosphere and type of customers that frequent it. From here on, it is the personal choice of each one to determine the most adecuate type of bar.

Santa Ana and Huertas
This is a great place to start an evening's entertainment in Madrid. The Madrileños will often start arriving to this area around 11pm on Friday's and Saturday's. Plaza Santa Ana is a very pleasant square just off Puerta del Sol and situated in an older barrio of Madrid; indeed the house where Miguel de Cervantes (writer of Don Quixote) lived is a couple of streets away in calle Cervantes.
This region is ideal specially when you move around without having a car, as the many pubs, taverns, theater-cafés and fashionable bars here are pretty close one to each other, and you manage very well by foot.

Alonso Martinez and Bilbao
Neighborhood with a range of atmospheres and styles. It is easy to find from the most elegant bar to the most alternative one. While in Bilbao you can find the concentration of the youngest crowd, on Alonso Martinez, you find all types of people and nobody feels out of place.

Thus are the names of two subway-stations, both of them in the heart of very lively areas. From the first one, try the locals around Plaza de Santa Barbara. Close to the other you will find, among others, Madrid's most famous discoteque, Pacha, but with a really hard-hearted door-keeper.

Argüelles and Moncloa - Ciudad Universitaria
Two more subway-stations, and also if you are not a student you may enjoy the ambience of Madrid's universitary quarter. This is, perhaps, one of the preferred neighborhoods for youths. Bars that serve the famous 'Minis' (liter cups in which any alcoholic combination can be added) abound.
Like in the other many neighborhoods, here you can see for yourself that the fiesta does not stay exclusively inside the bars, but also goes to the streets.

Bernabéu Area
In the immediate area surrounding Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, you can find many locales representative of Madrid nightlife. Bars with drinks and shots (chupitos) alternate with dance clubs. All of this, along with an environment that is a little more select than the other areas, can make the night last into dawn.

Malasaña
Was once the centre of the "movida" in the Madrid of the 80's and its centre is the 2 de Mayo Square.
It is the "alternative" area of the city, with rock concerts and affordable prices in comparison to other areas.

Azca
Located in one of the most modern areas of the city, next to the Paseo de la Castellana and near the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
The ground floors of this area have a multitude of discos and pubs. Orense street with its salsa atmosphere, and Avenida de Brasil with its large discos where numerous people meet and dance till early morning.

In winter: Traditional Cafés
There are numerous traditional cafés in Madrid, many of them decorated in the style of La "Belle Epoque", and when the cold wind is blowing outside you may want to check out if there are still artists and writers meeting in them, like in the famous Café Gijon.

In Summer: Terraces
This is perhaps a symbol adopted by the culture of Madrid, and in general, has spread to all other Spanish geographic locations because of the good weather that accompanies the country much of the year.
In hot summer-nights there is hard
